Before I go comparing our roster to other BE teams, I'll compare it to last
years team.

PG - Devon Downey - who will out play him?
SG - Armein/Jihad - who brings the experience they had?
SF - White - do we have a NBA prospect with 4 years of experience?
PF - Hicks - enough said
PF - McGowan - he's back, but without Hicks beside him

Every year, one of the good discussions of the forum is about the
"questions" going into the season.

Last year, there were several - PG, C, would Armein step up, how Andy would
respond, etc.

This year - there are many, many more -
I look forward to seeing how it all unfolds - but I'm with Beiner - I'll be
estatic with a NIT appearance.

A while back I made a post asking what our expectations of Mick should be -
about the only one to respond was Mike Thomas - a BE championship within 5
years.

What do others think?
What are the measures - BE championship, NCAA berth, deep run (Elite 8 or
better), NC Championship and in what time frame?

Go Cats!

Mick's task is much more difficult than Andy's. Andy had talent, if not
depth. Andy had 4-seniors plus Cedric and Devon (throw in Tilford, Allen,
and the walk-ons). Andy had undeniable talent to include at least one NBA
player and. Mick has Cedric, Allen, and Tilford to start. It's impossible
to project what Andy would have done had he been delt the same recruiting
hand. Mick has been extrordinary!

I again challenge anyone to look at the rosters of the BEast and tell me
which teams will be better than the CATS?

Fear of being disappointed is a terrible reason not to dream. Like I tell
my corporate team - "aspire to be extrordinary!" I think Andy gets that.
With the exception of Fortson, he is the only coach who was able to recruit
5-star talent to UC in conference USA. Flint, Wingfield, and Jerome Harper
don't count. OSU botched the recruitment of Flint and nobody else wanted
Wingfield and Harper (Micky-D's with criminal baggage).

Here's my projection: 20 wins, top-7 or > Big East finish, they beat OSU and
Egg-zavier, NCAA tournament. I'll save this email and repost in March
'07...Don't wait to get excited about this team - GO CATS!

I am not changing my "wishlist". If UC makes it into the NIT that will be
quite a feat. The schedule might be easier this year than last, but not by
much, and this year's team would lose to last year's team. I am not
tempering my enthusiasm, I am letting it build to heights I feel
comfortable with. If I expect 25-6 and get 15-15, I will be very
disappointed. But since I expected the worst earlier (like immediately
after AK's injury last year) and have simply been hoping this year's team
can be .500, I will stick to that. If they achieve more, great, but I do
not expect this team to be in the NCAA tourney next year. if they are, I
would say Mick's coaching job was as good as Andy's last year. Better in
some respects, but no one (likely) will ever have more difficult
extenuating circumstances than Andy had, so his success was truly
remarkable.
