I don't think of it as risk management and my friends who read this might be surprised to hear that! I call it realism with a twist of fandom. You appear to have fandom with only a twist of reality, but do not worry, I won't call you out any more than this because you think differently. I will go into the year knowing there is a shot at the Big East and national championship, but please forgive me if I think it is small in the former case and nearly negligible in the other. Also, that does not mean I do not hold my team in the highest regard, only that I am knowledgeable about the overall chances. I will be there as always rooting them on and until an actual game is over I will never admit defeat, only speculate on it. I hope you can appreciate the difference.

Don't worry, it won't hurt my enjoyment though and I am just glad it is not another 3-25 year!

Jon,

U remind me of the people that i dont enjoy talking about the bearcats with. Why not just expect 0-30 than you will be super stoked! It makes no sense to call yourself a fan, if you do not hold your team in the highest regards. Too many risk managers in todays society...

I am not changing my "wishlist". If UC makes it into the NIT that will be
quite a feat. The schedule might be easier this year than last, but not by
much, and this year's team would lose to last year's team. I am not
tempering my enthusiasm, I am letting it build to heights I feel comfortable
with. If I expect 25-6 and get 15-15, I will be very disappointed. But
since I expected the worst earlier (like immediately after AK's injury last
year) and have simply been hoping this year's team can be .500, I will stick
to that. If they achieve more, great, but I do not expect this team to be
in the NCAA tourney next year. if they are, I would say Mick's coaching job
was as good as Andy's last year. Better in some respects, but no one
(likely) will ever have more difficult extenuating circumstances than Andy
had, so his success was truly remarkable.
