I always thought that the hanging bearcat could easily be bobcat, wildcat or
other random house cat. It doesn't stick out.
On the other hand, the mascot is too cartoonish to make logo out of.
Me thinks they'll find something in between and change them both and we'll
have a new logo (again)
Who wants to start the old logo/new logo thread this year?

Subject: Re: [UC Basketball] The Bearcat
Actually the senior classes of 2005 and 2006 commissioned a Bearcat
sculpture to put in Varsity Village
and definitely, the Bearcat's name is Bearcat, it would be weird to call him
anything else.
The caricature definitely looks meaner than the one on the field, but the
one of the field is much more recognizeable (And less ugly); I have never
EVER purchased anything with the hanging bearcat, it just looks dreadful.
I don't think an image of the mascot would be appropriate on a shirt, except
for maybe children's apparel. The C-Paw is the brand of mascot and is all
that's necessary. ie: it's the footprint that theoretically would be left
when we trampled the other team...and I suppose italicizing it really made
it that much fiercer... (Where were these open forums before that decision
was made about how to drop the money I pay to the school?)
Anyway, I guess it's finally nice that they'd like the fans input about
things before they enact further changes, but don't you think it's just a
bit too late? I gaurantee you it's just a display of courtesy to the
community, everything at UC is decided by committee. Although I will say,
most of Varsity Village was implemented from student suggestion and the
student open forums. I'd say creating a space on campus is much different
than the creation of a branding initiative.

They want to try to reconcile the two Bearcat images... the mascot and the
logo.
While our team wasn't named for it, how many folks know there is an actual
animal that is called the Bearcat? It's from Southeast Asia and is also
called the Binturang. Didn't the Cincinnati Zoo used to have one (and do
they still have one)?
Here are some pictures I sound, the first one is a really nice shot:

Looks like the logo is more like the "real" Bearcat than the mascot is.
