I am actually a fan of both.  The current mascot was used on t-shirts and 
logos in the 60's and 70's (that I know of).  I have an I'm Bearcatty pin 
with the mascot on it.  Sure it is not as fierce as today's logo Bearcat, 
but I like both and think they both serve a purpose.
