Alice passed away around 4 years ago. I wish they could train another to be
at the games, that was always cool to see.

Before a football game Alice would sit in a cage in the northwest corner of
the field. The handler would get her out on a lease and walk her around the
field heading south towards the closed end, then east across the back of the
end zone then north up the sideline, finally turning west to head for the
cage.
In her later years she would make it about half way around and then stop and
sit down. The handler had to carry her from that point on and I'd guess she
was in the at least 40 pound catagory.
I don't know if she died, retired, or the handler decided he wasn't going to
carry her sorry butt anymore but she stopped showing up I'm guessing at
least 5 years ago.

"Alice" used to come to UC games, but either she got too freaked by the
crowds or got old and sick. But for some reason the zoo stopped bringing
her.

By the way, somebody tell Andy LaCombe! He has been calling for this kind
of forum for years!

I like the article linked to from bearcatnews regarding the open forums on
the Bearcat image (score a few points for the admin):
http://ucbearcats.cstv.com/genrel/060706aab.html

They want to try to reconcile the two Bearcat images... the mascot and the
logo.

While our team wasn't named for it, how many folks know there is an actual
animal that is called the Bearcat? It's from Southeast Asia and is also
called the Binturang. Didn't the Cincinnati Zoo used to have one (and do
they still have one)?

Here are some pictures I sound, the first one is a really nice shot:

Looks like the logo is more like the "real" Bearcat than the mascot is.
