Downey SERIOUSLY considered leaving in August after Huggins left. One reason he stayed is because he had already enrolled at UC for the summer and would have had to sit out a year as a transfer. Another reason is that he really liked Andy Kennedy, who recruited him to UC. As the season unfolded, he liked AK even more.

UC lost both its PG in 1989 after Tony Yates left. Vic Carstarphen transferred to Temple and Elnardo (Chip) Givens was kicked off the team for not attending class. (YES - Huggs did that)

The Bearcats moved Andre Tate over to PG and Tarrice Gibson served as his back-up PG. UC won 20 games in 1990 despite losing both its PG before the season.
