and Williamson (#10 JC player), we'd have Bobby Maze, Hernol Hall (#4 JC
player), and Tyler Smith (#3 prep player this year, and top 10 (pre-season)
HS player last year)? The newcomers alone would make a pretty good starting
lineup! With good coaching they could gel by tournament time and be a
threat to anyone.

Or, our current roster could all defect and Mick's new recruits could turn
out to have less talent and poor attitudes. Then the team could really
suck.

I think I'll wait for more (hopefully positive) recruiting and retention
news!

Al,

I think it is a little difficult to gauge how we will do before the
roster
is set (as well as other teams), but I have to say 8-8 is overly
optimistic,
especially if Downey, Herrara and McGowen all leave.

Below are the teams for the BE games next year with my guesstimate and
last
year's result. I can see no sure wins, 1 likely win, 4 likely losses,
and
11 sure losses. So, overly pessimistic would be 0-16, pessimistic 2-14,
realistic 3-13, optimistic 5-11, overly optimistic 8-8, crazy - any
winning
record.

I'm curious which 8 teams you would project us beating and why? Here are
the only 5 games I think we even a small chance of winning.

The only likely win is against Seton Hall at home - SH will have a new
coach, game will be at home, team was poorly coached this year - may be
hard
to correct poor play. They me as disheartened as our team will be at the
end of a losing season.

Likely losses (but possible surprise wins)
Rutgers (they will have a new coach, but they have decent talent and
played
hard this past year)
South Florida (couldn't win this year, but game will be on their court
and
we won't have a full roster of Div 1 talent)
DePaul (was one of the weaker teams in the conference this year, but it
will
be Wainwright's 2nd year, Wainwright is a good coach - not sure about
how
good he is as a recruiter, at their place),
Providence (one of the weaker teams in the conference this year, game
will
be at their place).

@ DePaul – likely loss (w)
Marquette – loss (w)
UConn – loss (l)
@ Syracuse – loss (w)
@ Rutgers – loss (w)
Louisville – loss (w)
Georgetown – loss (l)
@ South Florida likely loss (w)
West Virginia – loss (w)
@ Louisville – loss (l)
Pittsburgh – loss (l)
Syracuse – loss (l)
@ Providence – likely loss (w)
@ Villanova – loss (l)
Seton Hall – likely win (l)
@ West Virginia – loss (l)

Overly pessimistic in my opinion, even if Downey, Herrara, and McGowen
leave I am of the opinion that next year the team finishes 1 or 2 games
above .500. Mick will bring in enough JUCO talent to have a winning
season, the non-conference schedule is Miami (US Bank) , Xavier (home),
UAB (home), Memphis (away), Ohio State (neutral) set, the other 5 will
be buy wins at the Shoe, 8-8 in the Big East.

I look for McGowen and Herara to leave also. I know everyone thinks it
would
be a huge mistake for McGowen to leave with only one year of eligibility
left but I think I would leave rather than play on a 7 win team. I say 7
wins cause I think if Downey leaves we go from 10 wins down to 7.

Downey leaving adds another year to the rebuilding process. A top level
point guard atracts big men and spot up shooters to a program. Also a
good
point guard takes a lot of the pressure off a coach to make all the
decisions.>>>>>>>>>>
