NCAA Academic Rules (Minimum)

The NCAA requires student-athletes to carry a minimum of 12 credits each quarter or semester and (collectively) pass those 12 hours with a minimum GPA (presumably 2.0 for seniors). The only exception to the 12 hour minimum is for seniors in their last quarter or semester who only need a lesser number of hours to graduate. I doubt that exception applied to either White or Muhammad.

HYPOTHETICALLY if a player dropped 1 or more of his classes, his course load might fall below 12 credits and he would become immediately ineligible.

ALSO if a player earned an Incomplete (rather than a letter grade) in a class, he would not pass a minimum of 12 hours until the Incomplete was converted to a letter grade. Again, he would be ineligible until the I turned into a letter grade.

I have no earthly idea what White or Muhammad did to become ineligible. My guess is that they either dropped below 12 credits or failed to pass 12 credits.
