Re: Depaul Beating Syracuse by 40

I guess the summary of this banter is UC is playing Syracuse in the
1st round of the BEast tourney regardless of what happens. The
concern for the game on Saturday is admittance to the NCAA tourney.
So I hope everyone begins the dissection of Syracuse analysis. We
could really use the win over SU to finish them off.

If both UC and Syracuse win, you're right. I somehow overlooked the earlier
Syracuse loss to Villanova. But if both lose, the Syracuse win over West
Virginia gives them the 8 seed.

No because Syracuse split with 'Nova if they win the last game, the
tiebreaker rules seem to say if you played an uneven number of games, 1-1
does not beat 0-1, because you could have been 1-1 if you had played two
games. So it does get down to DePaul.

I don't think so. If either UC or Syracuse wins and the other loses, the
winner gets the 8 seed. If both win, Syracuse gets the 8 seed because of
their win over Villanova. (It doesn't matter now what Seton Hall does. The
Syracuse loss last night locked Seton Hall into the 7 seed.) If both lose,
Syracuse gets the 8 seed because of their win over West Virginia, unless
Louisville and/or Rutgers wins to create a 3 or 4 way tie. But even then,
if I understand the Big East tiebreaking procedure correctly, Syracuse would
end up the 8 seed and UC the 9 seed.

UC needs to win tomorrow, for lots of reasons. After last night, it's hard
to imagine Syracuse beating Villanova, even with them being clearly on the
bubble.

For the Big East Tournament, I think the only way Syracuse gets the 8 and we
get the 9 is if Syracuse wins and UC loses. And by my calculations it comes
down to us beating Depaul and them losing to Depaul. There is no way we get
anything but the 8 or 9 seed, so it looks like we get syracuse in the first
round. and we get Uconn or 'Nova in the second round depending on their last
games. The 4-5-12 should be G'town, Pit, Rutgers or 'Ville. If 'Ville and
Rutgers lose their last game, and ND, StJ, and Providence win their last,
the 10-11-12 seeds go ND, StJ, 'Ville

With regards to NCAA tourney consideration, I think last night's loss by
Syracuse puts UC above them. We need Villanova to take care of Syracuse
this weekend.
