Tom,
My point was not that they are great recruiters but how they remain great recruiters after not having a proven track record and that AK could recruit as well as these guys in my opinion. More or less, why do kids want Thad and Cal as their coaches over other maybe superior coaches and programs. Thad has not really recruited anywhere he has coached, he hasn't stayed there long enough, he also hasn't really produced any NBA talent. Who grows up and says, "I want Thad Matta to coach me." Cal did well at UMass but since then he hasn't really done much at all in an so called second tier conference in the last 8 years, and also not produced much pro talent. The great UMass teams had Camby and who else, nobody else that played in the NBA, some played overseas like Donta Bright. He did lead his team to the NIT finals with D'Juan Wagner but that is about it. Who is to say that if AK gets hired he doesn't come in here and get a whale of a recruiting class in his first of second year.
The scenario that I like is that Huggins goes somewhere where Mayo and Walker don't want to do, assuming that walker is even eligible and Mayo asks Huggs where he should go to school, Huggs says stay at home and let AK coach you.
