What I actually said is Dan is "just a bit of a UC (and Huggins) homer."
Meaning a little more than Keels, for example, who is very "even
keeled." :-) I'd compare Dan to Thom Brennaman in that sense. It's a
part of the "average guy sports fan" persona that fits Dan so well.
If we're all honest, we want our media guys to tell it like it is, but
also favor our team. If they're a color guy on broadcasts, they can
cheer more, like Dave Lapham when doing a Bengals game. I'm OK with
Lapham because, while he roots hard for the Bengals, he's still honest
(sometimes brutally so) about their performance, and he's very
perceptive about what's going on. Jim Kelly Jr. on the UC football
broadcasts is a lot like him. I like Chuck Machock, but he's not up to
this standard.

I defer to my elder Randy(see this whole thread) on this one... Not to
mention my own opinion, Dan Hoard is a Homer, in the most positive
sense.
I don't think any of us meant he was a "homer" in a negative sense. And
he
does get excited both ways, but he's a homer.

Dan, I would have to disagree with you, Dan Hoard doesn't make many
mistakes
and he is far from a homer. If you ever listen to his play by play, he
gets
excited no matter which team hits a big 3 pointer. Not saying I'm a
huge
fan but I never seen him as being a homer. If you want to listen to
homer's, listen to a Xavier, Kentucky broadcasts. I'm not a huge fan
but I
think Dan Hoard did a good job no matter what sport he broadcasts.

I know a large number of OSU fans who would be more than happy to give
Paul Keels back to UC. They listen to him on their radio's while atthat.
the games, and they say he is constantly calling wrong numbers, not
correctly describing the plays, and forgetting to mention that a
penalty was called on the play before that brought the ball back.
Personally, I wish Dan Hoard would be UC's play by play guy for the
next 40 years...

Keels was very good, a smooth professional. I've come to like Hoard

frankly, just a bit of a UC (and Huggins) homer. Can't blame him for

All this good news about XM and the Bearcats, I guess some of it had
to even out. I really hope he can still be the voice because he
really is one of the best. Now if they can bring back Tomm Brennaman
for the XIX telecasts.
