UC could end up being a dilemma for the NCAA tournament committee.
Let's say they do finish 19-11, 8-8 in the Big East, winning 3 of 4 at
home (losing to Villanova) and 1 on the road (Seton Hall or Syracuse
most likely):
- Pro: Started 13-2
- Con: Finished 6-9
- Pro: Road wins over Vanderbilt, Marquette, Seton Hall or Syracuse
- Con: None of those are NCAA locks, only one since early January
- Pro: Neutral court win over LSU
- Con: Home loss to Dayton, who has fallen apart recently
- Pro: Finished .500 in very tough Big East
- Con: Finished .500 in conference, in 7th to 9th place
- Pro: High RPI, no bad losses (except maybe Dayton)
- Con: Only LSU and West Virginia (at home) are high-profile wins
- Pro: Overachieving team, all things considered
- Con: Not the same team since Kirkland's injury
In the end, I'd think 19 wins against UC's strength of schedule (as
reflected in the RPI) would be enough. The NCAA often says it's the
"whole body of work" that ultimately matters. However, a February road
win may be critical, and a first round Big East tourney win could also
help a lot.

I was thinking abut this on my drive to work this morning. With 4 wins
in conference, a win over Providence might lock up a berth. With 5
total wins, Providence would need 6 wins as we'd hold the tiebreaker
(assuming they do not use a crazy CUSA type formula!). A win over UL
next Monday combined with a win over Providence locks it up IMO. No way
at all Providence wins 7! At best I can only see how they get to 6 and
that would be them winning every winnable game.
Also, I am not so sure UL will win 6!
As for the NCAA though, unless there is a magic turnaround, forget it.
I see possible wins and think UC must win 4 more to get in. I think UC
will only be favored in 1 game (Providence) the rest of the way. Maybe
they will surprise me though.

Realistically, UC has a tough road ahead...I've circled
Providence as the most important game of the season. I think they are
the team with the best chance to knock them out of the BEast tournament
(based on remaining opponents.)
