"that said, then one could argue, that anyone showing up at the games has 0% chance of changing the situation"
I think Mike Thomas has pretty much indicated something similar with his
comments that fans will not be a factor in the coaching selection process.
Basically they are saying "take it and like it".
I've tried to compare this situation to that of the Bengals a few years ago where
FINALLY the administration had to pay attention to the empty seats and HAD
to change their ways. I'm now convinced that the comparison no longer
applies. The UC administration has shown they could care less about whether
the seats are filled or not. They just dont care that much about the athletic
program... its just one small piece of the university to them. And.. unlike the
Bengals, UC can move along just fine whether people attend basketball games
or not.
I just think it would be healthy to admit that Darth Z and the BOT will do whatever
they want and lack of fans, complaints, etc. will have 0% impact on the decisions
they make. While you do not have to give them a complimentary "Thank you sir,
may I have another", you do have to "Take it and like it". Darth Z is the dingo that
ate our baby.

0%? Actually it has at least 2%, and probably more like 4 or 5% chance... the athletic budget is about 2%, and with the lost revenue, the athletic dept will need money from the general fund... so I would say more like 4% chance...
although, our basketball program gets us about 95% of our national media time, and is constantly pointing out our downfall...
other than 4% You're right though...
that said, then one could argue, that anyone showing up at the games has 0% chance of changing the situation, and you get to watch a losing team, so you're just throwing your money away.

I hate to TOTALLY disagree with folks but... While I understand that to all of us
on this forum, the state of basketball program is near and dear to us all. It IS
afterall a basketball forum. However, you are absolutely fooling yourself if you
think the basketball program is THAT important to everyone else and to the
administration !
The state of the basketball program will have absolutely 0% impact on Darth Z
and her continued employment at UC. I wish that were not the case but it is.
She is not some rogue loose cannon acting on her own. She has the backing
of the BOT who are obviously blessing her moves.. not just in the athletic area
but with the University as a whole.
I know it stings that what we value most, our basketball program, is being destroyed
before our very eyes but while this is a HUGE deal to us, realize that it is NOT
such a big deal to others... OBVIOUSLY. They see the basketball program is just
a SMALL piece of the university, deserving no more attention than other aspects
of the university.
Again... it sucks for all of us because this is OUR baby that they are dumping on,
but to continue to think that this will have ANY impact on Darth Z is fantasy. I
wish that were not the case but sadly, as long as the BOT is behind her....

Missing the NCAA, missing the NIT, and missing the BEast tournament are ALL PROBABLE. No mystery there.

It will be interesting to see how things play out over the next few months. If we miss the NCAA's, which looks probable, things could get very ugly for the administration. Zimpher's contract is up in 2007, if we flop this year, and win 10 games or less next year (which also looks probable) there is a real possibility her contract won't be renewed.
I guess it all comes down to the hiring of the next head coach. One would think if Nancy & Pals screw this up she is on her way out the door.

At least the media (i.e. Bill Koch) has also started to place blame where blame is due (although not directly). From Sunday's Enquirer:
Don't blame Kennedy, his staff or the players for the state of UC basketball. They're simply trying to hold together a virtually impossible situation.
Blame the power struggle between UC president Nancy Zimpher and former head coach Bob Huggins that has left this program in a shambles during its first season in the Big East Conference.
