I was talking to some folks near me, and I said, "In a 30 point blowout, is it possible to notice how bad of a job the refs are doing?"
In terms of consistency, I thought it was awful. There was no cohesion. At first I thougt they were calling the game "blowout style" which means they will let virtually anything close go, along with some slightly should have called stuff. But then after awhile, they started calling some ticky tacks. Then in the 2nd half they started calling it tighter for a bit which made the fould count go up, then they went back to swallowing the whistle later. Consistency is one of the tougher things to do, but I have never seen it this bad.
The one call you refer to with McGowan was crazy. Even if you miss the head slap on the one guy, how do you miss the next guy crush him with the body half a second later?
They could have let it all go and I would have been ok with it, but to let that go, and then call some that they did made no sense. I wonder if they were from different conferences or something and they are used to different styles, and they were unable to find a happy medium to call the game at.
I like that the UC players were able to focus on the game though.

Subject: [UC Basketball] Refs and Thoughts
Was anyone at the game last night? How 'bout those refs? Where did they get them from and what rulebook were they using for the game?
Best call of the night: Can not remember who the UC player was (may have been McGowan), he fakes the defender who is behind him, up into the air, McGowan does not move his feet but bend down, the defender kind of flies over him making a lot of contact with his thighs and knees into McGowan's back, McGowan goes up for the shot and NONE of the zebras even thinks about calling a foul.
We need to be able to quiz the refs after the game, and I want that job. There were many head shakers in the game.
Ohio should have beaten UK, they needed a big comeback to win. LSU gives Ohio State all they can handle and LSU lost a 15 point lead in the second half at OSU. UC may be a lot better than people think. Maybe Coleman can come back and Herera sues for his eligibility ;-)
I am beginning to think that UC owes Kennedy a two year contract just so that he can stabilize the program and audition for the long run. I think that AK may be able to do a better job than anyone at cleaning up the mess in the short term.
