Part of that talent promptly put us in the police blotter for a longggg
time. Those problems started with Yates' players not Huggins'.

The Tony Yates era at UC was in my opinion a disaster. His first year was
the only year his teams made the postseason. When he was fired, the team
was on probation and the program was a mess. He did leave behind some
talent for Huggins to work with but that talent was not great. Coach
Huggins was able to get two NIT bids out of that bunch.

I thought Tony Yates did a good job. UC was at the bottom, & he helped raise
it to an NIT team level. He was let go right before Shoemaker opened. Tony
didn't get the benefit of the new arena. He might have gotten us up to an
NCAA team level with a couple of more years. I do hope that we don't fall as
low as we were when Tony was brought in.

I have been down on the people that think a new coach can come in and UC
basketball will get back to where it was in a matter of a year or so. Then I
started thinking about how I was the same way back when they hired Yates.
Boy I thought this guy will be able to recruit and UC will have some great
teams. I was younger then but have gotten older and wiser. 15 or 20 years
from now some of you will also be older and wiser. Don
