"One thing totally absent from UC seems to be plays at
the post."
One of the commentators from Illinois State asked the
other if he thought this was a top 25 team. They both
agreed that it would not crack the top 25 this year -
"too many problems in the middle".

They were VERY high on Downey. His skill and speed
will cause problems for other teams all season.

Hicks hasnt been effective, McGowan doesn't seem to
do a whole lot. There was a point in the second half
when no less than 3 attempts were made by Hicks ,
McGowan and a 3rd UC player to get the ball in the
basket from right under it only to finally lose the
ball. For a moment it looked like fingering practice
at volleyball.

Maxiell has left a HUGE vaccuum and that has taken a
toll on Hicks' game. There was no sign of the
ferocious play he is known for.

The defense was poor in the first half but it looked
better in the second like Mick said. Tilford seems
like a good prospect but he needs some quick
learning about college ball. He seems to be carried
away by the excitement from the crowd and attempts
to complete breakaways on his own.
Armein was dogged in his defence but his woes at the
other end of the court go on.

Somehow it looks like even Coach AK is not sure
which is the best combination of players to put on
the court , a combination he'd want at crunch time.

White looks very determined to make a difference and
he seems much more aggressive than he's ever been.
Hopefully he will get better and better as the
season progresses.

And yeah! Chad Johnson was in the 2nd row in the
section just next to the student's section - 113
which is where I was.

The 2nd half UC has turned up the defense. I'm much
happier with theeffort from everyone on the floor
tonight. As far as the offense goes, Downey seems to
get them into their offensemuch better. During the
stretch in the 2nd half that UC couldn't put
anypoints on the board they had Downey on the bench.
As soon as he came in(after Kirkland's FT's) UC hit
a 3, he hit a layup, and they hit another2 to open
up the lead. When Moore comes back I'm guessing he
will takeaway time from Tilford and Jihad, as Downey
looks to be the best PG theyhave now, and this is
only his 2nd game.Mick-----Original

address@hidden: [UC Basketball] 1st
halfIllinois State is not a good team; the fact that
we're letting them hangaround is worrying. Lots of
defensive breakdowns, but after an uglystart at
least the energy has picked up. Kirkland and
Muhammad did not seem ready to play. Not
sure what to make of Allen's three-point shooting...
