Even funnier that UC's budget is being cut every year, whic is putting huge strain on each college and department. So 2.5% is a huge number considering college's are taking cuts in the millions and doing everything to cut corners. One college took out every 4th lightbulb to reduce energy costs.

So my guess is Nancy figures that basketball is creating a negative image for the entire university therefore she can improve the overall image by only risking 2.5% of the budget. And the improved image can bring in additional endowments that may well exceed the few dollars lost from the Huggins fiasco. In addition it is possible that if athletics stops being self-sustaining at it's current budget NZ could just lower the athletic budget and she hasn't lost a thing.

Funny thing about athletics is they can define a University while only being a very small portion of the University.

I don't think it's about the people for sports at all. What they are
interested in is large government and corporate grants and donations into
academic research departments. That's where the money is in academics, right
Jon?. This is one reason why the Dean of the College of Medicine changed.
They brought in someone who could restructure the dept. for research and
fundraising. The dept already had the academics and teaching reputation.

I really don't think attendance at basketball or football is even on the top
10 list for this administration. They want more cash flow for the academics
side of the fence.

The Athletic Dept is supposed to be self sufficient. It's their job to fix
the attendance. Mike Thomas got handed a bag a rocks to work with on this
one but this is one of the reasons why I don't think staying away from games
really hurts anyone except the athletic dept. itself and in turn the
athletes. But, after all, they didn't cause this mess.

I tend to agree with Oscar when he said the Athletic Dept. should have
handled this and the administration should have stayed out of it. They
really are two separate financial entities and should have been treated as
such. Mike Thomas should have been the one to fire Huggins and that's only
because we know Bob Goin wouldn't do it. Bob probably should have gotten one
more year until Thomas was hired and settled and then have been let go at
that point after the season. This would have solved a lot of problems and
cost the university less in severance.

If they find that they are not getting donations to the athletic
department or school in the numbers they must have I'm willing to bet
the board of trustees sacrifice her. From day 1 I told some friends
she would probably get rid of Huggins, but after a year or two of
being way down in donations to the school they will sacrifice her in
order to attempt to bring the people back.

been
up to this point even before the Huggins fiasco.

Now this is a possible improvement on prior attempts to communicate with
DZ
and the BOT. It could help, certainly won't hurt.

Also, since DZ is cancelling so many engagements to appear, apparantly the
booing is having an impact. I hope we can keep it up till she decides
that
leaving is her best choice.

As you know, UC is a state institution. In Ohio, all State
entities are subject to the Ohio Public Records Act. Any and all
letters received by the board or Dr. Z are public record. Copy
the local media outlets with your letters to them. It may cause
the media to inquire further into how many letters were received
and what those letters said. UC could only ignore letters for so
long once the media was aware it was receivng them.
