I think one of the goals of this fast paced offense it to limit the
opponent's ability to set up their defense. One of the trade-offs is when
you take a 3 in this scheme, often times, the post players won't be in a
position to get the offensive board. Personally, I don't have a problem
taking a 3 out of the scheme as long as the player taking the 3 is taking a
good shot and is capable of making it. I don't want to see Hicks doing this
for instance.

I listened to the game last night and since it was on UC student radio it
was painful to listen to. I am mostly worried by how quickly they shot
three's. On nights they are on it will be great, on nights they are off it
will hurt to watch. I don't mind that we shoot the threes, but I wish they
would work the ball around the perimeter a little more instead of just
bringing the ball down the court and heaving.

I think Andy left at halftime with Madhu. I must have not been invited to
the party again!
In the 2nd half Hicks was dominating. Hit a 3 and had many good catches
and baskets inside, but I agree with Andy that he won't be able to shoulder
the load, nor should he have to. This team has mismatches with White and
Kirkland and those two are the keys to the season. Hicks will put up 15 and
8 nearly every night. Where are the other rebounds coming from? White and
Kirkland need to average 30 and 12 between them if not better. I tell you
what though, with Moore, Downey and Muhammad leading breaks getting the ball
to Hicks, Kirkland and White out in front of them, we are fast. Some of
those baskets we got last night were very fast.
Since this is a game notes thread, I'll post a few more thoughts and
responses. Regarding the scoreboards, it is a bit of a pain to have to look
to the side to find out total fouls and timeouts. I like the revolving stats
on the new wall mounted video screens, but many complained (in section 112)
about not being able to see them well and not all of the complainers were
old. All in all, the previous set-up was better, even though this one is
"nicer". There is too much crammed round the arena, it feels like I need to
look in 3 different places to keep track of everything. I do wish the main
board had more info on it instead of just a lot of flashing lights. I did
not have the same issue as others with the reflections, but I can see where
that could have been a problem from the sides of the court.
Since Andy is posting I presume he has rejoined the forum. Welcome back!
Jon

1. Hicks does not appear to be able to shoulder the load of the
team on his own. He is a much better support player. Hopefully the seniors
can step up and help Hicks out with the heavy lifting.

I didn't make it to the game, but looking at the box score, Hicks gets 15
points on 6-8 shooting with 8 boards in only a half game's worth of play.
What did I miss that doesn't show up in those numbers that made Hicks look
not worthy of shouldering the load?
