I don't have time right now to answer part one, but typically a kid does not
become an 'overnight sensation' during the HS season. That can happen in a
given summer of AAU ball tho.
The coaches will reformulate their recruiting lists at this time of the
year, then watch unsigned seniors and juniors during the HS season against
the toughest opponents that these targeted players will face.
Then coaches will watch the players they've already signed to learn more
about their skills, but mostly to maintain contact.

you provide an example or two?
Also, Ramar Smith was released from UConn (if anyone cares). We almost
had him. Looks like he could be another troubled kid though.
