One point that was missed during the time of the ultimatum was the basis for
Huggins' request for a 3 year contract.

Most assumed Huggins only had 2 years left on his contract. He and his
lawyer were arguing that when the DUI occured, his contract had already
rolled over so that he had four years left on his contract when the roll
over was removed.

Only one year of that contract had been completed and he now had 3 years
left.

Part of their argument was based on the discrepancy between the letters
Huggins had received (one from Goins suggesting the 4 year scenario, one
from counsel indicating the 3 year scenario).

If you read the correspondence - Huggins lawyer was looking for a win-win
situation. If the President was so determined to remove Huggins, it does
not seem too difficult to have agreed that there were 3 years left and
Huggins would complete his contract.

Of course, the ulterior motive on Huggins part was to buy time. If he could
get the 3 year commitment, he would have had a chance of landing Bennett and
the OJ Mayo clan, taken the team to at least the final four, continued to
graduate his players, and have increased his hand.

I remember last year, when members on this board spoke about how President
Zimpher had it out for Huggins. There were some who did not believe it.

It is hard now to believe she did not have it out for Huggins.
