Not to disparage your remarks...I would have had a similar opinion perhaps 6 months ago. Now I know better. The "small working group" that you refer to likely consists of the "Z"estapo herself and a two or three academics that are figuratively bound and gagged. The days of a folksy, shrewdly savy AD like Bob Goin are gone. Your not going to get great talent attracted to work under her sharp high heel...at least not someone that has the knowledge and understanding of what it really takes to succeed in big time college athletics. I hate to be so grim because I continue to support the Bearcats sports teams, but let's not fool ourselves that everything will be OK. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice...

I wouldn't get too excited one way or the other about the make-up of this search committee. I've watched more than a few AD searches over time and have never known one to have the current AD on the search committee. Furthermore, public institutions usually have to have a fairly large committee for a high profile search.
I'd be really surprised if the search isn't run by a small working group, instead of the whole committee, with significant input from Goin. I'd also bet that the ultimate choice is an associate AD from a BCS university or an AD from a very successful mid-major...
