Re: Recruiting Dilemna - correction

Ever since the 5/8 rule went away, I've always thought of having not one,
not two, but 13 schollies available each season. Things are unpredictable
anymore.
I think Cincinnati has a great chance at getting the NCH players and the
staff would ensure there is room.

Unfortunately, having scholarships available hasn't really been an issue
the past few years, despite the fact it looked like it would be. I have
learned to only count on this year, you never know what next year, or the
year after will bring.
Plus I'm sure if Huggs has a feeling he will get those 3, he'll not give
one scholarship in 06/07.

Sorry - I left Coleman out of my scenario - but it doesn't change the
questions.

Looking at the balance of classes on our roster and the next 2 recruiting
classes, it appears Huggins will face an interesting question. (This
scenario assumes Huggins remains over atleast the next 3 years).

2005-2006 roster - 11/12 scholarship players (how did we get here?! Didn't
we have a possible 15 at one time?)
4 Seniors (Hicks, Kirkland, Muhammad, White)
2 Juniors (McGowan, Johnson)
5/4 Freshmen (Downey, Herrara, Tilford, Coleman/ Evans)

2006-2007
2 Seniors (McGowan, Johnson)
1 Junior (Pettinella)
5/4 Sophomores (Downey, Herrara, Tilford, Coleman/ Evans)
5/6 Freshmen (Aldridge) /JUCOs

2007-2008
1 Senior (Pettinella)
5/4 Juniors(Downey, Herrara, Tilford, Coleman/ Evans)
5/6 Sophomores (Aldridge) /JUCO Seniors
2 Freshmen

We won't have three scholarships to give the NHC trio not to mention Pogue
(though I do not think we have a real shot at getting him, the coaches
closest to him have strong OSU connections). Does Huggins leave a
scholarship unused in 2006/7? (Not a biggie, I can't remember the last
time
we had 13 scholarship players). Does he go with 13, then run one or more
off?

One of the interesting observations is that UC could be poised for back to
back championships IF - Huggins remains, Mayo and Walker come to UC,
because
their presence makes the 2007-2008 team a final four caliber team, in
08/09
Mayo leaves but UC has a very veteran team, looking to recruit a piece or
two to defend its championship.

Go Cats!
