The great thing about Fox is that they actually report the news, not what
they think their viewers want to hear (Dan Rather). CNN used to be like
that and they changed over the years. Fox and ABC are the only ones left
worth watching, and most agree (ABC #1, Fox the fastest growing)

I hate to come off political on this forum, but the media misses/ignores
lots of important issues, most of which are not sports related. The media is
biased, and controled, more and more, by corporate interests, not truly free
press (I.E. Fox News).

There is 1 reason, IMO, that UC has such a negative image: The Fortson SI
cover/article. I have not read that wothless rag since that article, and I
never will again. Problem is, follow up stories that turn the villain into
the hero don't sell magazines/newspapers.

We're stuck looking up to the dooks of the world until we get the spotlight
back on us, and that will only really happen when we get back to the final 4
and beyond.

I AM jealous of their program! I am envious of the treatment they get. I

am envious that Chris Duhon's mother's job situation just gets glossed
over.
I am intrigued by how Greg Newton gets the Duke Student Code of Conduct
changed so that instead of getting kicked out of school for cheating, he
still stays and plays Center for Final Four teams. I am bewildered by the

media's ignoring of these issues. I am flabbergasted that now that Duke
is
ready to begin a string of 0% and 25% grad rates, that the NCAA realizes
this is wrong and looks into re-evaluating the rules under which they are
calculated to better reflect the ACTUAL percentage of grads.

But I also respect them as one of the best programs today.

Jon

Okay, enough of this! I, for one am sick of Duke, but seriously all
this
talk sounds like sour grapes to me.

Being one of the top programs in the nation, don't you think that they
are
scrutinized by every naysayer out there?? They run a clean program (from

what I know) do you see Coach K or any of his assistants getting DUI's?

I understand everyones point about the education double standards but
really all this talk sounds like we're jealous of their program.

"Or does it mean that the Duke academic reputation is really a sham?"

No! Say it isn't so! :) One of the reasons I am no longer a Duke fan
is
I am tired of the double standard they get versus a team like UC as
their
shi...stuff smells just as bad as any other school's!

And again I'll ask questions that I've postured before - with Duke
claiming
to be one of THE outstanding (Ivy League quality) academic institutions

in
the country - How do they get to admit 20-25% of the McDonald AA's
every
year? If the "average" student admitted to Duke is in the top 1% of
his/her
high school class does that mean that 20-25% of Mickey D AA's are that
bright? If the graduation rate for men's basketball players (as now
suggested by the NCAA) at Duke is close to 100% does that mean that
their
average basketball player has a combined SAT score of 1300+ in order to

have
the "smarts" to get through their classes? Or does it mean that the
Duke
academic reputation is really a sham?

How many recruits Duke got from that Commercial? I'll answer that for
you,
Zero. They had already filled their number of scholarships available
for
next year, and filled them with mostly McDonalds All-Americans. Just
like
they did last year and the year before that.
