Good catch, Jon. I looked in the media guide at that season, and the
results (so far) are similar, such as:
-- 1 bad road loss, the Crosstown Shootout (like DePaul this year)
-- 1 loss after giving up a big lead, at South Carolina (like
Louisville this year)

Maybe this time UC catches a break and isn't kept out of the Sweet 16 by
a fluke shot (the infamous tipped/banked 3) or a mountain of turnovers
by the point guard (I hope Jihad watches tape of Horton in this game).

I'd feel as good as I do now. I still think the Bobby Brannen led team
was
Huggins best and biggest miracle, but this year's team is also showing
how
great of a coach he really is.

... if, at Midnight Madness last October, someone would have told you:
-- Mike Pilgrim will be out of the program in a few days
-- like Pilgrim a year ago, Vincent Banks will not be eligible all
year
-- Chadd Moore's back will flare up again, to the point that he will
have to quit basketball
-- like Nick Williams a year ago, Jihad Muhammad will struggle at
the point
-- Asrangue Souleymane will not get any significant minutes all year
-- new walk-ons Erick Murray and Ryan Patzwald will see first half
minutes in conference games more than once during the season

But, as of March 1, UC would:
-- be 22-6 overall, 10-4 in C-USA
-- have 4 close losses:
-- to a top 5 OOC opponent at home
-- to a top 15 C-USA opponent, both at home and on the road
-- to a top 25 C-USA opponent on the road
-- have a near-blowout OOC loss to the undefeated, unanimous #1 team
-- have another near-blowout loss, to a C-USA opponent on the road
who will make the NCAA tourney, the only time UC just wouldn't show up

When you think about it, there haven't been many (any?) years under
Huggins when UC has been this consistent with such limited depth.

I think tonight should, in all fairness, be filled with raucous cheers,
not just for the seniors and not just because it's yet another
convincing win. And especially for the man behind it all.
