Re: Hicks is our new Kenyon!

Hicks' stats aren't a result of Maxiell's pressure... Max sat most of
the end of the 1st half and Hicks carried the team in those minutes.
What I'm talking about is not exactly correlated with the stats
anyway. Martin was an average player for 2 years, then got a little
better than average his junior year, and was insane his senior year.
I think that was all due to him buying into Huggins philosophy. "Be a
work-horse!"

My point is Hicks is showing this same work ethic. What makes him
capable of Martin's status is his emotional attachment to the game.
He is really pumped about playing... just look at his enthusiasm in
rebounding and hustle. He doesn't get frustrated with refs when
getting mauled for layups, he gets upset when he can't get a rebound.
Thats the intangible drive I see in him.

Be careful. Hicks is playing well to be sure but he's getting the looks and
touches because defenses are keying on Maxiell. Some of the folks here are
complaining about Max not coming to play but he is coming to play and
they're doubling on him and helping on him. Hicks stat sheet is the result
of that. When Max is gone next year Hicks may "disappear" on the stat lines
a bit just like Max has this year.

And NO ONE is the new Kenyon until they have a jersey on the wall and a
encased locker to show for it. Know what I mean?

I agree. I think Hicks is evolving into the best player on the team.
His effort tonight was fantastic.

Ok, I refuse to wallow in sorrow from this game... despite the barrage
of phone calls with the 502 area code. Hicks freakin' played his life
out there. I totally see the K-Mart attitude bubbling out of Hicks.
An average athletic player totally buying into Huggins mentality.
Look at how hard he went for blocks and even hustled for rebounds.
Not to mention that he scores 20 points tonight.

Despite the loss, I see the emergence of a great player tonight!
