Also, keep in mind he was signed while that idiotic
5/8 was still going on. That rule rendered
scholarships, for the most part, "use-it-or-lose-it".

This is the theory....it takes most juco guys a year

It takes many HS guys 2 years to get with the
concept. (late signees might take 3 years)

What it really comes down to is....dont use the
scholarship....or take a gamble on a kid that
clearly wont be ready for at least 2 years.

If Souly is where an average juco is by the midpoint
of his junior year (considering redshirt year, it
might have been worth it.)

Rememeber, they couldnt find ANYONE else they wanted
to sign so it was a "roll the dice or wait til next
year and roll the dice on someone else".

But if it takes 5 scholarship years to get one good
year out of Souly was it
worth the investment???? I don't know.

It did take Kenyon a couple of years to mature as
well... NO I am not
comparing souly to Kenyon, BUT, drastic changes are
possible.

I believe the staff knew that Souly was a project
and took the
calculated gamble that he, after a redshirt and a
year practicing but
rarely playing, would be better than what they could
get in a juco
player at that time.

Frankly, I think it came down to him or not using
the scholarship till
the next year.

Remember, you cant teach height. No matter how much
you scream at them
or run them !

And, players have regularly put on 20-40 pounds of
muscle after 2-4
years in the program.

Sadly, I have to agree with you Mike. I watched
Souly warm up last year
when UC played DePaul at the Roller Skating rink
(AllState arena) and
again
last saturday against Purdue. Personally, I didn't
see much of a
difference
in his development both physically or mentally.
Where as watching a more

focused and determined E.Hicks going through his
pregame was a huge
change
from his laughing and joking around with Bobbit
during pregames last
year.

Souly, again in my humble opinion just looks a bit
out of place on the
floor. I really, REALLY hope he proves me wrong but
I think we are a
year
or two away from seeing any real contribution from
him.

Sorry, we saw souly in the second exhibition game.
He has more than a
long way to go. He is not going to be an impact
player at any point.
Perhaps as a senior he will be able to spell
someone but its not
happening soon.
