Insiders.com is reporting that
Cook will be at Midnight Madness
this year. I think Huggins will
wrap up this years recruiting class
very soon and start recruiting the
2006 class ASAP. With Legree, Martin,
Kennedy, & Huggins we have one of the
best staff's in college basketball.

Brent,
The Arrowhead Pond game you are thinking of was the 2001 Sweet 16 game
against Stanford.

I thought they got the #1 seed
out west. Thought it was played
California.

Wasn't that game in Pittsburgh? I know LA is big, but not that big.

I always use the UC-UCLA game to explain
how good of a coach Huggins is. That UCLA
team had 5 McDonalds All-Americans on it.
(Kapano, Gadzuric, Bozeman, Thompson, &
Patterson) They also had 3 players that were
ranked in within the top 40 recruits coming
out of high school. UC highest rated recruit
was a true freshman-Jmax...The game was played
in UCLA backyard. Two overtimes against that
team who had beaten two other #1 seeds the same
year, that is how good of a coach we have.
Huggins has never gotten the best players year
in and year out, but his teams always compete and
he does a terrific job of developing players.

OK, to save time, here is the Basketball Forum Timeline for this year
(and all years past).
August - Whining and Praise over Huggs Recruiting
September - Bitching about Non-Conference Schedule & Hype begins
October - "Team could be best under Huggs"
November - A Few wins - "we are top-5 for sure"
December - Continued move up the charts "Team is really Gelling"
January - Loss to Xavier and someone else - "Practices are too long"
February - Team has recovered - "This year will be different in the
NCAA Tourney"
March - UC Wins Conference Tourney and/or Regular Season Title
Second Round exit - "Jeez we really need to have:
fast point guard (2004), height (Stanford), outside
shooting"
Sorry to be jaded, but the forum is so cyclical it has gotten funny.
Under Huggs they will always be near the very top of college basketball,
but it takes some luck to jump up to the next level (making the final
four). UC is criticized for having an easy run to the final four in
1992, even though they DID make it and should have made it the next
year. Look at Xavier last year. People were ready to fire Matta and
lynch Chalmers. What happens? Chalmers does the exact same stuff,
except that his shots fall for a two month period. What is the result?
Matta is a genius and lands the tOSU job and Chalmers gets drafted.
Huggs got screwed with the bad Break ;-) in Kenyon's senior year and
then facing a BS #8 seed in UCLA (top-5 earlier in that year) with
Logan's senior team. It is all about the breaks that you get (good and
bad).
For me, I am always expecting something big. Let's hope one or moore
players gets hot come March.

I was just wondering what expectation members of this forum have for
this years basketball team?? Teams are allowed to officially start
practice in 18 days and UC's first game is a little over a month away.
Who do you think will be in the starting line-up? My lineup would be
Moore, Banks, White, Hicks, & Maxiell.
Moore probably will start the year at PG, but Jihad will probably start
before we enter conference play. I have high expectations for Banks.
From what I have read he is an offensive machine and Nick Williams did
not impress me at all last year. White will start at SF, but this is
are deepest position by far. We have White, Kirkland, and Bright
competing for playing time. Hicks and Maxiell will be very active on
the glass, but they will struggle against bigger teams. In the end I
think that we would probably be lucky to make it to the 2nd weekend in
March. Advancing to the Sweet 16 would be a very good year for us. I
think when we get into the NCAA tournament are lack of size will hurt
us.
I hope I am wrong and Huggs has our team clicking on all cylinders when
the tournament comes around. D/Taylor Mill

Subject: Re: [UC Basketball] Louisville gets 9th recruit for next
year!!!!
I think Pitino is smart as heck. As long as all those kids comitt, he
really doesnt have anything to lose by accepting their commitment.
5/8 is dead. If the numbers become an issue he can instruct his staff to
weed out the weakest links.
Especially early signees. They can say "You didnt develop like we
expected" so you'd be happier elsewhere.
That kind of thing is reality for top programs.

read a report on Insiders.com and Louisville just picked up there 9th
basketball recruit for next year. Are you kidding me??? If one more
recruit commits to the Cards this year I will personally call the NCAA
and demand an investigation..JK...That is unreal...I thought you were
only allowed to have 13 scholarship players on your basketball team.
Here is a list of there commitments. Amir Johnson 6'9 PF from Los
Angeles-Ranked in the top 20 Terrence Williams 6'5 SF from
Seattle-Ranked in the top 50 Andre McGee 6'0 PG from California-Ranked
in the top 100 Clarence Holloway 7'0 C from Chicago-Ranked in the top
100 Bryan Harvey 6'4 SG from Compton-Ranked in the top 100 Jonathan
Huffman 6'11 PF from Birmingham-Ranked in the top 200 Chad Millard 6"8
SF from New Hampshire-Ranked in the top 100 Lamar Robinson 6'8 SF from
Florida-Ranked in the top 200 David Padgett 6'11 C-Transfer from
Kansas-Ranked in top 10 of 2003 This is an unbelievable recruiting job
done by Pitino and his staff.
I have heard through some L'ville fans that Lamar Robinson, Clarence
Holloway, and Amir Johnson will never make it to campus. Johnson will
probably put his name in the NBA draft, Holloway will have to go to a
prep school or attend junior college and Robinson has already enrolled
in a junior college. Pitino has already stated that Garcia will put his
name in the NBA draft after this season and they fully expect Juan Diego
Palacios to be one and done. They also graduate Ellis Myles, Larry O'
Bannon, and Otis George. They still would have 5 players on this years
roster return for the 05-06 season and add in the 6-9 recruits you would
end up with 12-13 players depending on who doesn't make it to campus.
Lets hope Huggs can counter Pitino's offense with some big time post
players. Still great job by the Cardinals getting 9 players. D/Taylor
