wELL, now that 5/8 is dead, you can sign whoever you want, and then simply encourage your weakest returning scholarship player to transfer or walk on.

Huggins was recruiting Lionel Chalmers and Kenny
Satterfield. Satterfield committed first and we stopped
recruiting Chalmers. The situation with Eaton is a little
different. We have a chance to lock one of the best PG's
in the country(not stating Downey isn't either)and get
one of the best PF available in the country in Flowers. Do
we risk the chance of landing both an elite PG and PF prospect
to get another elite PG prospect. Tough to call!!! Regardless
it looks like we will have some talent visiting Clifton!!!
Looking ahead a bit, if Eaton or Downey commit to us, we would
have some exceptional talent in the backcourt and on the wings.
Banks, Evans, Bright, Eaton or Downey. Lots of scoring options.

Many years ago I asked Huggins this question and his response was that you
don't wait around, you take the first one that commits, (otherwise why are
you recruiting them in the first place) EXCEPT if you think/know you have a
real shot at a Mickey D AA type, someone who was really very special. Then
you make sure you keep a slot open.

PS - To Zahid - I didn't respond because I had a computer crash and your
kind message was one that I lost.

It looks like Devan Downey will be making a visit to
Clifton as well. I found this on Insider.com
After watching college programs from the Midwest and Southeast trail him
around all summer, Devan Downey finally decided to remove some of the gray
area from his recruitment. The 5-foot-10 point guard from Chester (S.C.)
High trimmed his list to six schools.
"In no order, they're Maryland, Cincinnati, Arkansas, Tennessee, Miami and
South Carolina," Downey said. The Terps and Bearcats will definitely get
visits and Arkansas is in position for one as well.
Mike will we accept the first PG to commit or is the coaching
staff looking favoring Byron Eaton over any other potential recruit?

I see this as a very constructive post which points out the realities of
NCAA rules. Clearly, all fans should be cautious. Nevertheless, envision
the following scenario. I happen to be sitting next to a young man on a
plane, and he is about 6'11" tall, and built like Shaq. He strikes up a
conversation, mentions that he has just won MickeyD honors, has decided to
spend 4 years in college before going to the NBA, and is looking for a
school with a good basketball program. He looks at me, waiting for my
response. Being cognizant of NCAA rules, I comment on the weather. :)
Yeah, right.
