Excellent analysis: I would add that Rob has not been a focal point of the
offense - the ball does not go through him, and he is rarely the first
option on offense - they don't work the ball specifically to him. Partly by
design I imagine, but mostly because Rob hasn't "earned" the right to have
plays called for him. Besides, how many plays would you run for a 6'10 guy
who shoots 35%???

Original poster had a good point - Rob is not a typical 6'10 player. Maybe
Huggs is trying to fit a square peg into a round hole, but I don't think its
too much to ask for our tallest guy to help out with rebounding.

Some responses to this previous post. . . .

"The problem is Huggins cannot break Robs stubbornness. . . . "
- If someone possesses an undesirable personal trait, like
'stubbornness', it is up to the individual to solve that problem - not a
coach, parent or anyone else. All others can do is give feedback.

". . . Rob was very successful on the court in high school and at Barden
Community College, and was ranked by top scouts for years as one of the
nations top players and NBA prospects (because of his performance on the
court).
- While he may have been 'successful', none of these previous levels
were the "major college" level.
- Whaley attended Barton County Junior College, not Barden Community
College.

"Big Robs rankings changed only since he played for Huggins."
- Yes, just like every other high school star who is now in college
playing at the competitive Division 1 level.

"However, I would bet he could make an NBA team after workouts because
no one can question his potential--- and NBA coaches manage potential."
- NBA coaches managed Dontonio Wingfield's potential quite well.

Huggins' first words to the two-time junior-college all-American problem
child were, 'All you get from me is a hard time and a pair of sneakers.'
Whaley said "I was used to coaches coming in there and blowing me smoke.
There wasn't no smoke blown. He told me he was gonna work the mess outta
me". - Enquirer.com Oct 19, 2003

(snip)

The problem is Huggins cannot break Rob's stubbornness, and Rob has yet
to produce under Huggins antics or disciplines. But let there be NO
doubt, Huggins recruited Rob because Rob was very successful on the
court in high school and at Barden Community College, and was ranked by
top scouts for years as one of the nations top players and NBA prospects
(because of his performance on the court). Big Rob's rankings changed
only since he played for Huggins. However, I would bet he could make an
NBA team after workouts because no one can question his potential--- and
NBA coaches manage potential.
