Nothing personal but I'm sick and tired of the "give the guy a second
chance crap". What in Whaley's history tells you that he deserves a
second, third or fourth chance. I can't imagine the steps UC and the
Athletic department have gone through to help keep Whaley eligible for
this season. As a regular student you wouldn't have been given anything
close to the help he is getting. Just because he is tall and talented
we should keep him. I think this team is much better off without a lazy
center. I know he is going to have lots of trouble getting the job done
but give Soulman a chance. He struggles this year and then maybe his
Junior and Senior season he becomes a force in the middle. I would rather
struggle some and watch a hustling team like UAB last year then a lazy
team that has tons of talent but just squeaks by. Just my two cents.

Hopefully - I think Huggs will realize Whaley is doing everything he can
and
working hard (hopefully he is) and do whats best for the team - bring the
guy we need back.

There's obviously more to this than simply Rob's
coursework that doesn't see the newspapers, or even
the UC forums. I don't necessarily disagree with
Goin's stance (even Oscar has basically declared Rob a
lost cause), but shouldn't this be Huggs' decision
when he comes back?

Just to follow up - this blurb was in this mornings

UC center Robert Whaley is expected to return to
Cincinnati this month
to complete the academic work he needs to be
eligible to play in
2004-05, but don't expect to see him in a UC uniform
next winter even if
he is cleared academically.

Goin said two weeks ago that he was "considering
moving on without him"
and nothing has happened since then to change his
mind. Whaley averaged
5.8 points and 2.5 rebounds last season after an
All-American career at
Barton County (Kan.) Community College.

Without the 6-foot-10 Whaley, the Bearcats will
field a team with no
player taller than 6-8. The only true center will be
redshirt freshman
Asrangue Souleymane, a raw talent from the Central
African Republic who
remains in the early development stages.

You guys should stop worrying or thinking about
Whaley. He will not be
on the team this year. Repeat - he will not be on
the team this year.
