Keith - I read this article a couple of days ago, and wasn't too thrilled
about the UC reference. While he says the firing of the assistant coach was
an overreaction the one proviso he gives for "protecting" Huggins is that at
that time Huggins had been eminently successful (as opposed to Snyder). To
me, the more important rationale was that they turned the program inside and
out, upside down & around, and all they come up with was a handful of,
putting it generously, minor technical violations. I would suggest, as I
stated back at the time of the inquiries, that virtually any school,
including the holy of holies, Duke, put through that kind of scrutiny would
have revealed some violations of the NCAA Byzantine collection of rules and
regulations having to do with recruiting and the treatment of college
athletes.

Richard K.

PS - I'm not sure whether his reference was supposed to be a compliment or
not - after all DeCourcy was in Cincinnati at the time of the
investigations, wasn't he(?), and so is intimately familiar with them, and
the resulting lack of any substance to the alleged violations.
