You`ve made some good points, MC. But I`ve noticed in the
last few years that some kids have been buried on the bench
at schools like Duke, Kansas and others and have transferred
to some other school. Kansas center, David Padgett is trans-
ferring to another school, I haven`t heard where to or why but
last year he was a major recruit for Kansas. I know Whaley had
a ton of baggage when he came to UC and by what we`ve seen
of him, he`s still carrying it around. I hadn`t heard anything bad
about James White. I think he came here for more playing time and
possibly White and Billy Donovan didn`t see eye to eye as to his
role on the team. Florida has an awful lot of talent and possibly
White didn`t feel he would get his 15 minutes of fame there. So
now we have him and I haven`t been too impressed with what he`s
shown so far. His shooting is erratic and when he drives to the
hole, he`s so thin that when he gets bumped he`s unable to finish
the play and loses the ball. He needs to hit the weights and get
stronger.
I agree that Huggs usually gets the most out of the kids that
come to UC. We will have 4 or 5 scholarships to hand out next
year going into the BIG EAST. I can only hope we get some real
talent out of those recruits. I don`t post on the forum very often.
During the season, I just read what everyone else is saying and I`ve
seen your comments in the past and usually I`ve agreed with them.
I have the highest regard for Coach Huggins and what he`s accom-
plished at UC but if the talent level doesn`t take that next step up,
the Big East could be a cold and lonely place.

It bothers me that of the Top

Its been that like that for the past couple years or so. Hardly anybody
mentioned Kentucky the past couple years and they didnt recuit well and had
no bench. They sure made a haul this year thou. Playing time is a big
consideration but of course not everything. Duke has had McDonalds All Americans on the
bench. Id like to see a list of reasons a top 50 kid would go to UC. I caint
think of many can anyone else? Kids with good talent but a little baggage that
top programs can do without sometimes find their way to UC. Whaley and White
are two on the current roster that fit that description. Its remarkable that
Huggins can stay in the top 25 every year without top line recruits. There is
several teams that get great recruiting classes and sometimes dont even make
the NCAA tourney. Like Huggins says, he doesnt owe anybody anything. They have
to earn their way. Some schools promise recruits lots of things but Ive heard
several recruits say Huggins doesnt promise anything so they have no hold on
him. Hats off to Huggins he does a great job with what hes got and I enjoy all
those wins. Just like everybody else I get to expecting too much sometimes but
when you step back and look it over we arent doing too bad. Don
