Actually, for undergraduate students the tuition costs are not considered
earned income; it is if the child went for a professional degree (law
school, pharmacy, med school). But the point is that while free tuition is
a benefit for those who work at UC for their children, the costs of housing,
food, books, transportation, and fees are still not covered, and those costs
used to exceed tuition (but may not after the latest rise in tuition).

Just to clarify for everyone, just because your mother works for UC doesn't
mean you get to go to school for free. Classes are free, BUT Mike's mother
would get charged the price of the classes as earned income and be subject
to pay the taxes on that income at the end of the year. So essentially, her
income for the year would increase by 10k without her actually getting that
money (since it went towards Mike's classes) and now she'd owe tax on that.
Additionally, there's the cost of books, room and board, food, and other
miscellaneous items that scholarship athletes get for free.

My estimate is that Mike would still have to pay for over 60% of the costs
to attend college.

I thought I read somewhere on the forum that Pilgrim`s mother works at UC
and was thus
eligible to attend UC for free. If this is true, why would he need a
scholarship. If what I
thought I read was in error, please let me know.

I read the item about a possible PG recruit-----Jihad Mohammed-----. At
this point in time,
he might be a great player, but what a s**t name. The media would have a
field-day with
that name especially If he should be a problem child. If I were a coach, I
would bypass this one.
But I`ll probably take some flaming on this but that is my opinion.

I hope we sign Loften, everything I`ve read about him is positive. He may
not be super-quick but
he can really shoot the ball. Similar things were said about another point
guard we signed about
5 years ago and he turned out to be quite a player=Steve Logan.
