As much as I hate to say it.  I agree with this.  If all teams were ranked
over the past 15 years strictly on their regular season results UC would be
a Top 5 team.  But if you ask anyone in the nation if UC is one of the 5
best teams over the past 15 years they'd say NO.  I wouldn't even say that.

The tournament means more than it should but that's not something anyone can
do anything about......except win.  Until UC wins in the NCAA tourney,
they'll never get the respect many other top teams get.

No one reads the season-end poll.

But you're right about your earlier point about that people SHOULD factor-in
the season as a whole, and not simply the tournament. But the fact remains
that fans generally DON'T.

It's a simple numbers issue. Even if you're a hardcore college hoops fan,
you don't keep track of everyone's regular season results/progress. There
are just too many teams to follow. I watch 2, sometimes 3 games per night
during the season ... but prior to the tournament (unless I looked it up), I
couldn't tell you much about Alabama. I learned a lot about Alabama DURING
the tournament.

I'm sure you've heard of "first" and "last" impressions. Most people don't
put much stock in "first" impressions, since there is inherent player
turnover in the college hoops system and it takes a while for a team to gel.
But making the same "last" impression every year leaves a mark.

If you ever talk to any hoops fans outside of Cincinnati, you'll see.
