Underseeding in the Tourney

Mike DeCoursey has a good article on the poor job the selection committee
has done on seeding, particularly how underseeding not only hurts the team
that is underseeded, but the teams that have to face them.  One example he
uses is UCLA in 2002.

"In 2002, Cincinnati was presented a No. 1 seed but faced a second-round
matchup against UCLA, whose 3-1 record against top 25 RPI teams was better
than all but three teams in the field. UCLA won the game in overtime"

Also, he tailed along with old UC asst coach (traitor?) Mick Cronin and the
Murray State team.  If you are interested in what life is like in a minor
conference, it is a good read.

"Had Murray coach Mick Cronin found himself in this circumstance a year ago,
the trip home might have helped blunt the pain. He was an assistant under
Rick Pitino at Louisville then, and the Cardinals flew to road games on a
private jet. They were served appetizers upon boarding, a full meal at
altitude. Their seats were leather, first-class width. Cronin left the lush
life behind to begin his head coaching career at the mid-major level, in a
league where busses carry the Racers from their home in southwestern
Kentucky to most away games. Every now and then, Cronin's cell phone will
ring and Pitino will ask a simple question: What godforsaken town are you in
