What you can do, I believe, without violating any copyright issues is
provide the first couple of sentences so at least users can see the context
of the story and then decide whether to register for the full-text version.

That is 'technically' possible but probably not ethical. The websites
that do this, do it for a reason and wouldn't appreciate another site
circumventing it. One thing we do try to do is identify those that
require registration in the link but that doesn't always happen..
