Now I agree with you. They are too cocky, but it's not because Huggins can't
coach offense...

I agree, the defense was not very good today. However,
they usually are good on defense, so if their defense
slips up now and again, I can understand that. It
seems to me that the half-court offense continually
struggles.. And it didn't appear to me that Field had
a wide open three. Maybe he did, but it looked to me
as if there was a guy with a hand right in his face.

Also, this loss has not bothered me as much as usual
because I think this team is extremely talented, but
again, they are way too cocky. In my opinion, this
loss might help them in the long run. I hope they
start thinking that they aren't going to win just on
talent.

Huggins called a time out with about 1:30 left which
left them with one. He
drew up a great play actually where Field had a wide
open look from 3 and it
clanked off the rim. (That's not the one you are
talking about right? The
one I am referring to came off an out of bounds
set). If it went in would
Huggins have then been a good coach?

I don't completely disagree with your assessment of
Huggins as I think he is
an average offensive coach, but offense did not lose
the game. Defense and
rebounding did.

83 points is pretty good. But when the game came
down
to the line, Lutz had good set plays that got them
easy looks. What did Huggins do? Drew up a play
that
Nick Williams dribbles to the 3 pt. line and
throws it
to field for a 3. No pick, no nothing, just a pass
and
shoot. I could draw it up better than that. Why
not an
isolation for Max? Why not run bobbit and/or
Field
off double picks? Anything but a simple pass to a
guy
who has a guy in his face and have him jack it up.

I don't know about out-coached, that is
basically a
matter of opinion, but
when a team scores 83 and loses, it is RARELY
due to
the offense. To me it
seemed rebounding and defense (mostly perimeter)
were the issues today.

And just to show I can say something bad about
Huggins, I do think it is
Huggins fault we lost this game. And it is
related
to the press. UC has
shown the most effort and fire while pressing 94
feet. I realize the teams
early on were not as good, but I think it is a
mistake to not press the way
they did at the start of the year. Early in the
season they tried to trap
the inbounds pass. Now they either back off and
trap (maybe) after they
cross half court or try to trap just before half
court (why even try
that!?!). Because this has been consistently
happening lately, I will
assume it is due to Huggins coaching and not the
players. UC is still
forcing TO's, but the main difference is they
are
not producing as many easy
baskets off of them as they did early in the
year.
I wonder if Kirkland and
White would rebound better if they were putting
forth more effort as a
result of pressing. They certainly could not be
worse rebounders. They
should be embarrassed after watching Eddie
Badsen
today and knowing how
pathetic they are crashing the boards.

Go Marquette!

I disagree with your comments. Huggins was
not
out coached this game. We
did not rebound the ball with two hands. We
kept
batting the ball out to
other people instead of grabbing the ball.
Charlotte was not strong
enough
to take the ball from us and we were not
getting
into proper position. As
for an Offensive coordinator this game does
not
prove that, we scored 83
points! Charlotte was hitting there three's
and
were not defending them,
some of those that we were defending there
were
still hitting. We need to
do a much better job of defending the three
because that is what will beat
us every time.

I hate to say it, but Huggs got out coached by
Bobby
Lutz and he's gotten out coached in both their
losses.
He needs to hire an offensive coordinator.
I'm
actually starting to think that last years
team
had a
better half court offense than this years
team.
Luckily, this year we have more talent. It's
painful
to see Kareem Johnson and Eric Hicks taking 15
foot
jump shots because their offense has no flow
to it
whatsoever. Charlotte had an open shot after
every
timeout but Cinci did not have any good set
plays
after timeouts.

I know their are a lot of people out their
that
won't
say anything bad about Huggins, but his
half-court
offense year after year is just pathetic.
There
is no
excuse this year because they have talent and
athleticism at every position. They have a
good
inside
scorer and great outside shooters but still a
horrible
half-court offense.

p.s. - losses may be good for this team
because
they
are way too cocky. They need to realize that
they
aren't as good as they think.
