Last night there were two games to kick off the conference season.
Don't look now but Memphis is 9-2 with a win over Missouri
recently and last night blew out Villanova at Villanova (now 8-4)
75-57. Memphis at times has been playing to the level of
competition (squeakers over Belmont and Oakland for example), but
the cardiac kids have been prevailing. The two losses are at Wake
Forest and at Illinois, both tough places and teams.

Did you watch the Memphis game? They were apparently missing some
of their players, but I do not know who. They are a typical Coach
Cal team, they have a ton of talent, but they are not disciplined.

The defense played by both teams was suspect. They applied back
court pressure, but all it consisted of was tight man to man and
once the ball was in the front court, the pressure backed off. I
am beginning to appreciate what Huggs has been saying about his
style of pressure. No one else has the balls to play it. You need
depth and you need an understanding of the rotations required to
not get beaten once a trap is broken.

Once this team understands the press better and can implement it in
games, they are going to be very tough. Hopefully they will get to
the point where they don't need no stinking big man ;-)
