I agree with your feelings toward BC leaving versus a school like Syracuse. I would be interested to see if this could open the door for taking both Florida schools. The BE could take UL, UC and USF for all-sports and take Marquette and Depaul to the basketball side, and then take UCF for everything but basketball.

The benefits for doing this would be to give USF a travel partner so that olympic sports don't take such a hit when traveling to USF since they could then double dip and head over to UCF on the same trip. This also gives football a more schedule friendly 9 schools which allows everyone to have 4 home and 4 road games in conference.

Of course, if it were up to me then I would just add UCF as a full member and not invite Depaul. Nothing against Depaul but this new BE is going to be pretty complicated already with partial members like Notre Dame and non-football schools versus all-sports schools. The reason that this is unlikely is that the basketball members don't want the football members to outnumber them.

There is my 2 cents.

Well, with BC going to the ACC, I guess it is for sure UC is going to the new BE. Who will join UL and UC? I figure USF based on media reports, but would be interested in other thoughts? How do you think the divisions would break down in bball? I still think this will be the best basketball conference in the US.

As for fball, the talk lately has been to include more conferences in the BCS. I read somewhere that if the BE is not part of the BCS, the BCS would no longer have the majority of Div I schools, so it seems "they" need the BE. With Syracuse, Pitt, etc. the BCS inclusion can be justified, even if it is the "worst" of the included conferences.

So for me, BC leaving is not a huge surprise and does not bother me as much as if it had been Syracuse, for instance.
