I'm pretty sure UC doesn't have to designate Moore with a
redshirt before the season starts. I think they can continue
to have him doing what he can with the team while he isn't
playing in the games, and then if it ends up that he doesn't
play in any games, it's a redshirt. If they decide in the
middle of February that he's ready to play and he's needed,
then he uses his 2nd year of eligibility.
(Think back to Derrick Hollman two years ago. He missed a
considerably chuck of time early in the season, but when he
came back and was practicing with the team, and even dressed
for the games and participated in pre-game warmups, it was
essentially a 'redshirt' year for him, even though he wasn't
able to get the 6th year of eligibility he was trying to get.)

That's horrible news for Chadd, hopefully it's not as bad as
that he will in fact have to sit the year out, do you think
it would be wise to maybe redshirt him so he doesn't lose a
year of eligibility? Or do you risk the year and hope that he
can rehab his back in time to contribute to the team down the
final stretch?
