I've also heard good things about Nick Williams' early work. I'm not
surprised though. Remember, this is a guy who was the starting PG for a
Big 12 team his freshman year.
The defensive matchups that Kirkland bring would be a nightmare for
opposing teams starting SG. As long as Kirk's perimeter footwork has
advanced and his ability to fight around screens has improved as well.
In a quick glance at the rosters of some other teams, only Francisco
Garcia (6-7) from Louisville would come close to Kirk's height.

While we are on the topic of talent, I spoke to a UC fan at the Miami-UC
Football game two weeks ago and somehow he had a chance to speak to Andy
Kennedy. This is some of what he had to say.
Nick Williams will be the biggest surprise of this years team. With
Whaley & White people have forgotten about how good this kid really is.
Defensively, he said Nick is a better on ball defender then Taron
Barker. As we all know James White will be the best athlete we have had
in some time and will be a leader of the team come march. Whaley if he
stays out of foul trouble should average almost a double-double. The
coaching staff is counting on him to put up 14pts and 8reb a game.
The most interesting thing he had to say is by the time conference play
comes around Kirkland might be in the starting lineup with
Max,Whaley,White, & Williams(Nick). He supposedly has really improved
his shoot and most of all his decision making. Erik Hicks is suppose to
have is explosiveness and quickness back. He is suppose to give White
all he can handle in the dunk contest. Hicks, will be the 1st person
off the bench for either Whaley or Max. He didn't really mention
anything about the other players other then Souleymane and Pilgrim.
Souleymane might red shirt and Pilgrim will get in when there is a blow
out. Again this is not a quote from Kennedy, but the Fan seemed pretty
legit. D

A comment from Jayd Grossman, the UC trainer who is moving onto
Marquette:
Leaving as this season approached was especially difficult, Grossman
said. "The talent there now is really, really good," Grossman said,
"much better than what's been there the last couple of years."
Only 12 days until midnight madness!
