Re: new schedule is out

Well, I remember at the time it was talked up like this link:

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/nfl/pastseasons/1996/news.cincystadm.html

But I remember there were also reports that they had shopped the naming
rights first and did not like the dollar amounts offered and decided to go
with PBS.

Although this link says Brown had to cover the naming rights ($5 mil)
himself. So I might be remembering wrong.

Realizing this is NOT a Bengals forum, I do still have to ask Jon, is this
true, or just something you heard? This is the first time I heard of this.

That being said, I wouldn't put forth the Bengals organization as a
model... lol

The Bengals did try to sell the right first. After not getting what
they
considered the "appropriate" amount, they then said the name would be
Paul
Brown Stadium. Had Fifth Third put up $50 mil or whatever, the Bengals
would have gladly done it "wrong". :)

For me it is the change of the name that I do not like. How would
you like to cheer for the UC Fifth Thirdians? Absurd, right. Well
it is the same damn thing. It was the Shoe and it still is the
Shoe. If it was named when it was built I think most people would
not have a problem with it. This way it appears that they sold
out.

The one thing that the Bungles did the right way was naming the
stadium, Paul Brown Stadium - very cool move.

More likely to be the Proctor and Gamble School of Chemistry due
to research
commitments.

A friend of mine got their ME degree from GMI. I hear you can get
one
anywhere these days!

On a more serious note, it still says "Shoe" underneath Fifth Third
Arena.
I do not like the name change much, but it is all part of the
financing for
the Varsity Village so I understand why.

Too late, there already was GMI - General Motors Institute ;-)

How about The Charmin School of Chemistry?

Neither do I.

How about naming the university after a business/bank too? It's
only
a
matter of time before we have "General Motors University" or
"American
Express School of Business".

I guess this "Fifth Third Arena" is the Shoe? I don't think
much
of
the
name change.

They releases times and dates. The Miami game was changed from
Sunday
to
Sat. (to not conflict with the Bengals game downtown). I could
have
predicted it. I just got done setting up my Thanksgiving and
Christmas
travel (in-laws) plans around all the previously known info
and the fact
that I had it all worked out without missing anything other than
1
basketball game against Coppin St. was too good to be true. :)
