Let's approach this from a schedule strength and a fan interest point of
view. There is NO WAY that a C-USA conference schedule draws as much
interest as a Big East conference schedule. I will grant you that C-USA
has been good for building up the football program but I would also
argue that it is not been good for building up the basketball program.
I cannot count how many times I tried to defend the strength of C-USA.
A lot of times, the arguments ring pretty hollow. Big East basketball
with the addition of Louisville, UC, DePaul and Marquette will arguably
be the strongest basketball conference in the country. The
non-conference schedule grumblings we currently hear will go away as
soon as UC starts playing a Big East conference schedule. Matter of
fact, I wouldn't be surprised if some suggest we lighten up the
non-conference schedule due to the grind of the Big East.
