RE: 2004 recruiting

I don't see any real problems with the recruiting. Remember that all of
these "top 100" lists are little more than rampant speculation. The NBA
is filled with guys who weren't on "Joe Blow's Hot List" when they were
17 years old, and the playgrounds are filled with guys who were.

Frankly, the difference in talent between the 20th best 17 year old
player and the 150th best, to the extent that such things can be
measured (and it is very difficult to measure them at all) is not that
great. Being willing to work hard and having good teachers can easily
make up the rather small differences in talent. That's not to say
scouting is useless, but at a certain point, due to the fact that these
player have a great deal of maturing to do, projections become
difficult.

Remember, the "experts" in Dallas found 10 players better than Kenyon
Martin in the greater Dallas area alone when he was a senior in High
School (he failed to make even 2nd team all city).

I've come to the conclusion that there truly are very few high level
players, it all seems like a lot of hype to me(Obviously Lebron James is
a standout) but beyond that, I think there is alot more parity in the
recruit pool than anyone could imagine, just because one guy get more
coverage than another doesn't mean he is going to do that much for a
team.

Need I say more than, Dontonio Wingfield, or DeMarr Johnson, both
considered very good commitments, but in the long run it was a Kenyon
Martin or Steve Logan that really became a team leaders and
contributors.

So, I wouldn't worry to much about not landing the guy that you get to
read about most, just because he gets more coverage doesn't mean he's
going to make that big of an impact on the team, frankly I'd take a team
of un-highly recruited(you are allowed to make up words in email :) )
guys like Kenyon Martin over a bunch of guys that will complain about
not being "THE MAN" like they were in high school and then jump to the
NBA after a year or two...

I think Huggins will do just fine in recruiting.

Any pictures available of Souleymane? I think I seen pictures or in
person all the other recruits except for him.
