From The Hoop Scoop Online:
I know that verbal commitments from freshmen in High School are virtually
worthless considering the dynamics involving Jamar Butler, but I found this
intriguing:
Wedneday, August 13, 2003 - Ironically, a week after we told you where we
thought each of the three top freshman - 6'6 Frosh Taylor King from Santa
Ana (Mater Dei) CA to UCLA, 6'3 Frosh O.J. Mayo from Cincinnati (North
College Hill) OH to Cincinnati, nad 6'1 Frosh Nolan Smith from Washington
(St. John's) DC to Louisville - in the nation were leaning in terms of their
college choice, King went ahead and made what appears to have been the
earliest verbal commitment on record when he picked UCLA. Well, here we go
again, as 6'7 Frosh Kevin Love from Lake Oswego (H.S.) OR, who Patrick
Stanwood ranked as the #2 player at the 14-Under/8th Grade AAU National
Tournament last week in Orlando, FL, could be a lot closer to making a
verbal commitment to the University of Oregon than anybody realizes.

Any validity to this?
