IMO, Jamar can be rightly criticized (at least a little) for the entire process, as you suggest. But the focus of this thread was his statement about UC's academics, and that is what the comments below (and my prior one) were directed toward.

To elaborate, I believe that:
- Jamar's stated reason for choosing OSU is *not* the real reason.
- He apparently was unwilling to state the *real* reason.
- He had to give *some* reason.
- The reason he gave was *not* his idea.
- It would be hard to convince me otherwise.

"I still have no bad feelings for Jamaar and his family who

good people."

How would everyone on here feel about Jamar if Huggs hadn't picked up
Vincent Banks immediately UC ended up being stuck with the
"best available"
(Taron Barker).

Jamar put UC in the worst scenario possible. UC put their
trust in him and
likely backed off the recruiting of several point guards
assuming he was
coming. I think this is a credit to Huggins and his staff
for getting Banks
and is a discredit to Jamar for screwing UC.

I made my comment with tongue fully in cheek. I believe
Jamaar's reasons
for going to Ohio State had very little to do with academics.
My point
was that saying it was about academics is pretty flimsy.

Time to move on and focus on kids who do want to play here. I
still have
no bad feelings for Jamaar and his family who seem like very good
people. It is hard to fault someone for changing their mind
when making
a big decision like this, especially when they are still in
high school.

I'd like to offer the possibility that Jamar did have all
the facts, but
his new school may have put a bug in his ear to say something about
academics. It would be an easy 'out' and an excuse that everyone (in
the media) would accept as logical.

Plus both Huggins and Jamar's father are quoted as saying academics
could not have been the reason.

Shame that Jamaar doesn't have facts on both schools. The
latest NCAA
report uses the 1995-96 freshman class (since it is the latest class
that finished the 6 year eliglible period).

Basketball:
Ohio State - 38%
Cincinnati - 100%
