In fb tulane beat Hawaii in a bowl this yr & went undefeated a few yrs
ago, finishing in the top 10 in the final poll.It went to the CWS in
baseball last yr. Its women's bb has been good. Has been down for a while in
men's bb, but gave UC some great games with Gerald Honeycutt. And hands down
New Orleans is the best roadtrip destination of the CUSA-BE schools.
And I'm an alum.

Losing Tulane, Houston, and TCU could only mean good things for C-USA. They
are all bottom feeders which have kept C-USA below the Big East and others
in conference RPI every year. C-USA is too big as it is and would be better
off with 10-12 teams and 1 division IMHO.

According to ESPN, the WAC is expected to invite Houston, Tulane, and
TCU before this is all over with, leaving C-USA VERY deflated. What a
mess. While the prospect of UC being invited to the Big East is
exciting, the thought of them staying in C-USA is troubling. I have no
doubt that regardless of who goes where, C-USA will be the hardest hit
conference when this is all over with.

I am also dreaming of a new BE. I think it would be a win/win for UC
football and basketball. I just hope that it can happen because without
Louisville I do not want to remain in C-USA.

Jim Calhoun got word of the day's events while at his summer home in
Hilton Head, S.C.
The UConn men's basketball coach said he felt bad for what happened as
far as football is concerned but was excited about what the future could
bring in his sport.
"Twenty-five years ago, even with the Big East, no one could have
envisioned what happened," Calhoun said. "Granted, Miami is perennially
a good football team, but I think right now, the good thing is that
we've maintained basketball. Our football conference has lost its two
best programs, but we will clearly replace them very quickly with some
of the names they are floating around.
"If we get to the 16-team conference [eight football and eight
basketball], it would be incredible basketball-wise. It means you could
add, hypothetically, a Marquette, or a DePaul. You would virtually
control from Boston, New York, New Jersey, D.C., Chicago ... you would
have incredible media control.
"I have spoken to [Cincinnati coach] Bobby Huggins and some other people
and I think a lot of people are very excited about the idea of this
being the best basketball conference in America. And we still could have
a terrific football conference. It may not be what we want initially,
but I don't know why people would think it couldn't grow."
