What is amazing, Brian, is that such is a well known fact. It is not a hidden nugget of truth for a recruit to uncover, that Huggins' teams start with defense - many young men come to UC/Huggins because they believe that increasing their strength and improving their defense are keys to their basketball futures. To have Rod's father state that he didn't want to play defense, but rather wanted to outscore people just proves to me that he should have left after his freshman year. It is nice, for our graduation rate statistics, that he did not, but rather stayed and got his undergraduate degree. But anyone who comes to UC, at least as long as Huggins is the head coach, who doesn't think he's going to have to play defense in order to gain playing time is making a serious mistake! I, along with all the others who have stated it, wish Rod nothing but good fortune in his future endeavors - but he had offers from other schools as a senior in high school, and he can not say that he did not know what he was getting in to when he signed with UC.

If any of the Forum members saw the story in the Cincinnati Post today, than the quote below pretty much sums up why Rod Flowers never got it going at UC:

"They wanted him to get offensive rebounds, bang and stuff, when he'd rather just finesse them and outscore them. He's got a tremendous perimeter game. He can shoot that mid-range jumper as well as the three. If he had somebody give him the blessing to shoot it, he could play 30 minutes a ballgame. He'd rather make them try to stop him rather than try to stop somebody."

Playing time starts with playing defense on Bob Huggins coached teams.
