Not to speak for Randy, but I took the comment "hood" to refer to the campus environment and campus life.  I went to this same school and I really think he was emphasizing the being busy with school and not having "idle hands", i.e. any college age kid with time on their hands can find many things "to do" in this environment vs. say going to a school like Miami University in Oxford, which has a very removed campus in a small town, away from everything.  That's how I understood his comments.

Please elaborate on your "hangin' out in the 'hood and all that goes with that" comment.

I am very interested to hear what goes on in your "hood".
