RE: Whaley arrested

I agree with your points Brian however, this is not the first time that Whaley has been accused of a crime. Regardless of whether he is found guilty or innocent his past behavior gave indications that this type of behavior is possible in the future. The problem recruiting a player like Whaley is two fold. First if he is found guilty then we lose another player due to off-court problems. Second, the negative press associated with his arrest hurts the image of the basketball program. Believe or not this negative image hurts the recruiting of other high quality players that do not want to be associated with our program. I hope that he is found not guilty but I also hope that we recruit players without all of the baggage. They are not worth the risk.Brian Johnson <address@hidden> wrote:Brad, I've got news for you. The players on last
season's team had zero arrests. The team's on-court
performance suffered in part due to the rightful
dismissal of Donald Little. Cincinnati basketball has
made it to the top of C-USA in GPA. Has any of this
cleaned up our so-called image problem? NO!!

The image problem is sustained through uninformed
dolts - largely in media outlets, but mostly Xavier
fans ready to take cheap shots - who continue to
hammer UC's off-court shortcomings, which, in truth,
are no different than any other program.

You must be joking. If this story goes mainstream
(i.e. ESPN, CNNSI) it
will just be another black eye for UC. Even if this
turns out to be totally
false and he is not guilty it's not gonna change
UC's image in other
people's eyes. UC is still taking a hit from the
horse punching incident
which we all know never happened.

I don't see this as a major problem, just another
piece of ammo to load in a
cannon. It's hard to break the thg image when you
have incidents like this.

Let's just wait for the system to do its job.

By the way, this isn't exactly news. Happened about
three months ago, I think. The fact that they
arrested him certainly does not look good, but let's
just wait.

Either way, Huggs certainly doesn't need the extra
stress.

Not only is it bad publicity, but will put a
strain
on relationships with
Whaley even before he steps foot on campus.
Huggins
will be faced with a
tough decision on him if found guilty. Let's hope
for a not guilty
verdict!
